Tracking its movement in minute detail, researchers found that the snail's wingtips trace out a figure of eight to generate lift, just like of those of an insect.
Carlisle revealed that it is possible to set the wingtips to automatically retract once the aircraft drops below 50 knots while landing, with the folding process taking around 20 seconds.
Of course, Boeing is well aware of this and had built several safety mechanisms into the aircraft to stop it from taking off with the wingtips still folded.
This gentle giant commands a special kind of respect since other airplanes have to wait up to three minutes before they can start their takeoff after an A380 due to the wake turbulence from its four engines and wingtips.
