A capillary gas chromatographic method with an electron capture dector (ECD) for the detection of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in seawater was developed.
Estimates vary, but a tonne of PCBs could contain 150 grams or more of pure gold, which, because it does not tarnish, produces stable electrical connections.
Typically, the PCBs are removed and crushed before being either burned in a furnace to melt out metals or treated with chemical solvents, like strong acids.
Also, take a look at our channel page where we cover other topics such as how touchscreens work, how PCBs work, or how cameras in your smartphone work.
Bioscope was set up as a separate entity by N2S, a sister company that specialises in recycling IT equipment, and which supplies Bioscope with the crushed PCBs.
Bioscope 由 N2S 成立,N2S 是一家专门回收 IT 设备的姊妹公司,为 Bioscope 提供压碎的 PCB。
By using PCBs and ICs together, one could achieve exactly the same functional circuit as that made from discrete components, but with far fewer individual components and tangled wires.
通过将 PCB 和 IC 一起使用,可以实现与分立元件完全相同的功能电路,但单个元件和缠绕的电线要少得多。
A different sort of pay dirt, however, offers the prospect of a much greater return for urban miners: the printed circuit boards (PCBs) found in rapidly growing mountains of electronic waste.
The process is capable of recovering almost all the gold, silver, copper and palladium from the crushed PCBs, although the exact amount depends on the type of circuits being recycled.
